In the sixth book in the Cemetery Sitting series, we meet Mr. Elliott. He was born in Boston but grew up in Seattle. Mr. Elliott is a debt collector and wealthy businessman in the steel industry, brought here by the railroad. As he handles collection cases, he makes an effort to help and get involved in the lives of those who owe. His wife, Martina, brings home her cousin from Connecticut, who is hiding his unsavory business practices behind the pretense of being jilted.

The return of characters like Detective Jeffery Muncer and Special Agent Fred Ford continues, as they investigate crimes on the street and at the crime scenes. Mr. Elliott manages to insert himself into issues like a drug ring, arson, and friendship.

With both new and returning characters, this book shows how one idea can change a life for better or worse, how being in the wrong place at the wrong time can happen, and how plans to commit a crime can unexpectedly turn into victims’ stories. It also teaches us how to navigate doing good while moving through daily life.
